TO BE FIRM, YET KIND - VA FEATURE: Mary Ruth Kristine F. Risma

She’s a combination of a firm individual with a kindness that satiates the soul— she is Mary Ruth Kristine F. Risma, a Juris Doctor II (Law Student) from Silliman University.

Mary is a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Public Administration degree in Silliman University last 2015. She’s the Associate Justice of the Silliman University Student Government (SUSG) Judiciary and the most exalted lady— the president of Portia Sorority, College of Law, in the said University. To note, she was also a former International Senior Cabin Crew.

Despite being born from a single-parent household, this situation didn’t stop her from becoming the independent and strong woman she is now.

“My family is my number one priority,” she said. Mary had experienced many hurdles in life, but family feuds have been the most impacting for her. As someone who values her family, she sees that whenever this happens, she would always bridge the gap, talk to everyone, and find a way to resolve the situation ASAP.

Such a firm upbringing, endowed with a hint of kindness and an intelligent mindset, enabled her to overcome problems and reach her goals in flying colors.

“I know God is preparing me for something great. Something that entails helping a magnitude of people,” she said.

Ripples has helped her become one step closer to her ideals: “[I’m] truly grateful to be given the opportunity to be part of this Christ-centered and compassionate community… Ever since joining the company, I was able to settle most of my obligations, provide for my family and myself, and have another opportunity to learn and grow another craft.

“To other freelancers, always keep an open mind and heart. Whenever there is an opportunity for you to grow, plant yourself there and never be afraid to explore no matter how daunting or overwhelming it may seem,” she added.

With all the problems that a person could encounter in their lives and the many achievements, they could have, Mary shares that overcoming self-doubt, boosting self-esteem, being able to defend herself from bullies, and standing up for herself are things that she is proud to have conquered and established in her journey.

“My experience in Ripple has been amazing, life-changing, and motivating thus far.”
