Sometimes, the best way to move forward together is to pause.

After months of leading, serving, building, solving problems, and pouring into others, our leaders were given an opportunity to simply step away from the usual pace and spend intentional time together.

From August 3–7, 2026, our leaders gathered in Boracay for the Ripple VAs Relationship Building Retreat, centered on the theme: “Building Kingdom Together: From Partnership to Brotherhood & Sisterhood.”

A Different Kind of Retreat

Unlike typical leadership conferences packed with back-to-back presentations and workshops, this retreat was designed to create space for meaningful connection. The schedule allowed for relaxed conversations over meals, walks along the beach, moments of prayer, and shared adventures. These experiences helped leaders see each other not just as colleagues but as brothers and sisters in a shared mission.

This approach recognized a simple truth: relationships grow strongest through shared experiences, not just meetings. A quiet conversation while watching the sunset can reveal more about a person than hours of formal discussion.

The Journey to Boracay

Our retreat began early in the morning with flights from Cebu and Manila. After traveling by air, land, and boat, everyone arrived on the island. The first hours were intentionally unstructured. Leaders dropped off their bags, took leisurely strolls, explored the surroundings, and enjoyed lunch while soaking in the island’s beauty.

This slow start set the tone for the days ahead. It reminded everyone that this retreat was about presence and connection, not rushing through an agenda.

Building Bonds Beyond Titles

One of the most powerful aspects of the retreat was the opportunity to connect beyond professional roles. Leaders shared stories, dreams, and challenges in an environment free from the pressures of daily work. This openness fostered trust and understanding.

Some highlights included:

  • Group prayer sessions that centered the team on shared values and purpose.

  • Beach walks where conversations flowed naturally, revealing personal insights.

  • Shared meals that became moments of laughter, encouragement, and support.

  • Adventure activities that encouraged teamwork and fun outside the usual context.

These moments helped transform partnerships into genuine brotherhood and sisterhood.

Reconnecting with Purpose

The retreat also provided space to reconnect with the deeper purpose behind our work. Away from screens and deadlines, leaders reflected on how their roles contribute to a bigger mission. This renewed sense of purpose energized the team and clarified the path forward.

By focusing on relationships first, the retreat strengthened the entire organization. Leaders returned with fresh energy, stronger bonds, and a clearer vision of how to build kingdom work together.

Practical Takeaways for Building Stronger Teams

The Ripple VAs retreat offers lessons that any team can apply:

  • Create space for informal connection. Not every interaction needs to be a meeting. Shared meals, walks, or casual chats can build trust.

  • Encourage openness beyond job titles. When people share personal stories, they build empathy and understanding.

  • Use shared challenges to build teamwork. Activities that require cooperation help people rely on each other.

  • Prioritize purpose and values. Reminding teams why their work matters keeps motivation high.

  • Allow time for rest and presence. Pausing from busy schedules helps people recharge and connect more deeply.

Moving Forward Together

The Ripple VAs Relationship Building Retreat in Boracay was a powerful reminder that strong teams are built on strong relationships. By stepping away from routine and investing in shared experiences, our leaders deepened their bonds and renewed their commitment to the mission.

As teams look to grow and thrive, they can learn from this example: building kingdom together means building trust, understanding, and brotherhood and sisterhood. These connections create a foundation that supports every challenge and opportunity ahead.

We came to Boracay as leaders.

We left as a stronger family.

Together, we build, we serve, we grow

Here’s to more journeys, deeper relationships, and greater things ahead. 🌴💙
